Castor OIl Challenge- Winter Edition

It's that time again! After much success with the Castor Oil Challenge, I've decided to continue the challenge. My hair has grown so much and even though I need to figure out a better sealant, massaging Castor oil in my scalp and edges has been extremely beneficial.

It's time to go!

Then and Now part 2....

Hi again!

I tried to do a BIG comparison post but blogger wouldn't let me so I've broken it up into 2 posts.

Carrying on...

I don't remember the year, so I'm guessing, maybe 3.5-4 years ago?

Hair today October 2012

These pictures are from the beginning of the Castor Oil Challenge:

Ciao!

Then and Now....

Hola again!

I've been doing the Castor Oil challenge since August/Sept and so far, I'm liking what I'm seeing. My hair feels thicker and my edges are growing in quite nicely. This is going to be a big picture with before and after shots of my hair. Enjoy!

This picture was after I took out kinky twists. I've been wearing kinky twists since May and didn't realize how damaged my edges were.

See how my edges are growing in? October 2012
Yay :)

Castor Oil Challenge 2012

I had EVERY intention of writing this post, but meh, laziness took over. So this year I decided to embark on a castor oil challenge.  I think next year, I'm going to make the jump to locs so I want my hair to be at optimal health before I get them installed.  Wish me luck!

Labor Day 2012

Hope everyone had a good weekend! This year West Indian Day parade was extra special because this was the first year my sisters and cousin wore costumes. Each year since I was a little girl, we've either watched the parade or danced with the band representing Barbados.

So much FUN!!!

More pics to come soon!!!!

Labor Day Ready...

I've never mentioned this on my blog but I'm a proud West Indian American. My mother is from Barbados and my dad is from Grenada. Every year since I was a little girl, Labor Day weekend is a big deal in my world. Parties, carnival, costumes consume my life and I love every bit of it. The Saturday before the big West Indian parade on Monday, it's Kiddies Carnival. Little kids don huge elaborate costumes while enjoying and embracing their heritage.

Enjoy!

Summer styling.

With the summer fast approaching, I decided for my sake, I would install kinky twists for the duration of the summer. This time around, I'm not doing it because I hate my hair, this time, I'm doing it because my hair needs a rest.

My resident stylist, Kat, did my kinky twists, and I must say they look amazing! I've decided to do deep treatments while my hair is in kinky twists, as long as I don't apply conditioner to my scalp(causes build-up). I'm happy for this break!

In other hair news, I'm slowly becoming a fan of banding. I'm able to better gauge how well my hair responds to a product. Since my hair is stretched, it's easier to part and smoother to the touch.

Ok that's it for now!

Random pic.

Hola!

I decided to post a pic of a failed puff that turned out pretty well. Unfortunately de-tangling was a nightmare so no more puffs/afros for me.

I've also decided to have kinky twists installed to give my hair a break.

AKA

I'm bored with my hair. I'm not very photogenic with my twists so extensions is the way to go until September. I plan on being extremely vigilant with maintenance and upkeep during that time. My hair is growing and I want to make sure it stays that way.

Till next time!

Always bet on black.

Black hair for the WIN! I love dyeing my hair jet black using henna and indigo!

Banding Experiment.

Hola chicas!

I decided to band my hair to make twisting a bit easier for me. The process took about an hour to complete, which isn't too bad. However, sleeping prove to be quite a pain since I had a slight headache because of them(and we won't even talk about the take down.) Next time, I'll only band the roots and a few inches below it. I had to cut 2 scrunchies because they became tangled in my hair but other than that, it was good. I'm not sure it made twisting my hair easier, it did however give my twists more LENGTH:

but my roots near my crown was so friggin dry and hard to part. I really need to get that area under control, it's driving me NUTS.

Till next time!
